Video Zipporah Video (13:30), 2017 Zipporah is an Elder in the community of Resolute. In this recording she talks of her early childhood, and of having been born in a nomadic Inuit camp at Aulattivik, Baffin Island. As a child her family was moved into the settlement of Pond Inlet. She speaks of her early life with her family and neighbours in the camp, and of her experience of the move to the settlement, through photographs taken by the National Film Board Photographer and filmmaker Doug Wilkinson. He lived in the Aulattivik camp with the family of camp leader Joseph Idlout and his family in the early 1950’s. The photographs were obtained by Zipporah’s sister through the NWT Archives in Yellowknife, now held by the Nunavut Archives, located in Igloolik. She talks of the many difficulties adapting to life in the settlement, and of her feelings about her past after living for most of her life relocated in Resolute. Zipporah was recorded while the Canada C3 ship was at anchor in Resolute Bay, during the Canada C3 Expedition, 2017.
